Plain City Sharks Swim Team
Team History
The Plain City Sharks is a Village of Plain City recreational youth swim team and was formed in March 2017. We held our first meeting in the Youth Building at the park and were hoping10-15 swimmers would participate. At the end of that meeting there were 34 swimmers signed up and we had 74 swimmers for our first season!
In 2018 we jumped to 98 registered swimmers and hosted 2 swim meets at home. The team has continued to grow each year and in 2021 we had approximately 136 swimmers participate, and had to set caps for certain age groups. It has been amazing that so many people have stepped up and helped to make our swim team a wonderful youth recreation program and success! We simply could not do it without our incredible parent volunteers who do so much to assist the team. It truly takes a village!
Team Philosophy
Our program, while competitive, is focused on developing the young swimmer to strive to do their personal best. We emphasize sportsmanship and the principle that you are competing against yourself, and focus on continuous improvement and growth. We are now a part of the N.E.W League which has teams mainly on the Central and North/Northwest area of Columbus and the outerbelt.
Team Requirements
A very basic requirement in place involves the youth participant having basic swim skills. This is only a 6 week program and the swimmers must have attained sufficiency in swimming in order to be on the team. Requirements: 8 and under must be able to swim 25 meters, on their own, no stopping and no holding on to lane lanes and 9 up must be able to swim 50 meters on their own, no stopping and no holding lane lines. And please know that we do have to place a limit on the number of swimmers, due to pool capacity and practice time availability.
Practices are in the morning, and Swim Meets are held on Wednesday afternoons/evenings. Parents are responsible for arranging all transportation to practices and meets.
