Military Heroes Banner Program

Celebrating Plain City's Military Heroes!
The Village of Plain City, in partnership with American Legion Post 248, is proud to recognize Veterans and Active Duty Service Members, both living and deceased, who reside or have previously resided within the Village. We will honor them with commemorative full-color banners featuring their name, branch of service, years of service, and photo. These special digitally-printed banners will adorn light poles in the Uptown District during patriotic holidays.

Application Deadline

Display Times
  • Banners will be installed around Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
  • Banners may also be displayed around other holidays and events, at the discretion of the Village of Plain City.
Eligibility
  • Honoree must be a Military Veteran of the active duty or reserve components of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Space Force.
  • Honoree must have been honorably discharged.
  • This program operates subject to the availability of streetlight poles.
  • Highest priority is given to current or past Village of Plain City residents.
Verification
  • Applicants must provide a copy of verification of military status of the honoree (DD-214 or NGB-22 with social security number blacked out, or a copy of Veteran’s ID Card).
Banner Specifications
  • Banners will measure 18” (width) by 36” (length).
  • Full-color design with the service member’s name, military branch, years of service, and photo.
  • Banners will be two-sided with the second side mirroring the first.
  • Banners will be returned to the applicant at the expiration of their use (approximately one year).
Photograph Requirements
  • Applicant must provide a military photograph of the honoree in his/her military uniform.
  • Photo should be portrait orientation and at least 5" x 7". 
  • Photos submitted electronically should be at least 300 dpi.
  • Photo will be returned after the banner is designed and printed.
Pricing Structure
  • Banners are priced at $75.00 and payment is due at the time of application submission.
  • Includes a two-sided design, printing, hanging, and removal of the banner.
  • Replacement cost of $75.00 shall be the responsibility of the applicant.
Process
  • The Village of Plain City, in collaboration with the American Legion Post 248, will oversee and administer the Military Heroes Banner Program. This includes application guidelines and processing, fee structure, and program policy.
  • This program operates subject to the availability of streetlight poles.
  • Due to the limited number of streetlight poles, priority will be given to honorees who are current or past residents of the Village of Plain City. Additional consideration will be given to honorees that graduated the Jonathan Alder Local School District or precedent schools that served Plain City. The selection process will involve a thorough review of all applications.
  • The Village of Plain City reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to reject or delay the acceptance of applications for any reason.
  • Banners will be displayed on decorative streetlight poles in the Uptown District.
  • The applicant must be a military organization or immediate family member of the honoree. Immediate family is limited to the spouse, parents, stepparents, foster parents, father-in-law, mother-in-law, children, stepchildren, foster children, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and first cousins.
    By applying, the applicant agrees he or she has permission to use the service member’s likeness and name in the banner.
  • If the honoree is deceased, recognition must be approved by the closest living immediate family member.
  • Applications, verification documents, and payment must be dropped off at the Village of Plain City Municipal Building, 800 Village Blvd., Plain City, OH 43064.
Additional Program Information
  • Information for the banner, including military branch and spelling of the service member’s name, will be taken directly from the application.
  • The Village of Plain City is not responsible for misidentified military branches or misspellings that were submitted with the application.
  • The Village of Plain City is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged banners (including damage incurred by acts of nature or vandalism). Any banners that are stolen or otherwise deemed unfit for display, shall be eligible for reproduction and replacement at a cost of $75.00.
Payments
  • All payments must be paid in person at the Plain City Municipal Building between the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding major holidays.
  • Payments must be cash, check, or money order. Credit cards payments are not accepted.
  • Payment will not be processed until application is approved.
